Summary

Elections for a transitional National Assembly, provincial councils, and a Kurdish regional assembly were held on January 30, 2005. Insurgent violence has remained high, but a government has been formed, a permanent constitution is being drafted, and additional Sunni Arabs are being brought into the new power structure.
